When we send out promotional arrangements we are required to list in detail the flowers that are being used; so when anyone reads the card they know what they are looking at. My coworker asked me about the green Dianthus. I confirmed it was a Dianthus and that the other flower was a Sweet William. For a moment I was unsure of what I said and I Googled Dianthus. A picture of sweet William came up. Immediately I corrected her and said, "I am not sure what the green flower is called!?" Turned out I was right. Both flowers are Dianthus just different variegated versions. This is news to me. How could two totally different looking flowers be cousins? Well, the history of this flower shows it is a genus of about 300 species including the carnation. This Dianthus can be traced to so many different flowers! Google it for yourself and see if you can tell which one is the real; Dianthus :)
