"To me, the poor are like Bonsai trees. When you plant the best seed of the tallest tree in a six-inch deep flower pot, you get a perfect replica of the tallest tree, but it is only inches tall. There is nothing wrong with the seed you planted; only the soil-base you provided was inadequate. Poor people are bonsai people. There is nothing wrong with their seeds. Only society never gave them a base to grow on." - Muhammad Yunus.
A coworker brought to my attention that we had accumulated some new and interesting bonsai in the garden. Thanks to Helen Le; a local grower. I went outside and looked around and was immediately motivated to showcase these new additions to Victoria Park Flower Studio. When I Googled quotes about this interesting plant I came across very creative and thought provoking words from names I had never heard of. The quote I went with for this piece really opened my eyes to a possible root to a lot of the growth issues we have in this world. I personally have to fight my small thinking so that I can experience life on different levels but what about those where small and limited thinking is all they know? For Steven to create a flower shop; someone planted a seed of possibility and he believed in it and ran with it and now that seed has blossomed into a productive business with a great reputation in the community. Do you know someone who needs a new seed? A new outlook, a new hope? Let this bonsai represent what happens when two equally good seeds are given to different soils to work with. One will grow tall and one will grow but be limited by it's environment.
